Nine Things You Should Know About Angels There are 9 choirs or ranks of angels - Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Archangels, Principalities and Angels. Angels aren't people. For some reason people believe that when we get to Heaven we become Angels. We don't. We become saints. Angels are completely different creatures. Angels don't have physical bodies. While it is possible for angels to do physical actions, such as the angel that wrestled with Jacob and the angel that released St. Paul from prison, angels are spirits. Angels don't really have wings. See #2. While angels are depicted in art with wings, they can take many forms and since they are spirits they don't have to follow the laws of physics for flight. Demons are angels. Satan and the devils were created good by God but chose to serve themselves instead of God. Angels don't get to go to confession. Because the angels existed in the direct presence of God and knew clearly who God is they were given a single chance to decide to be good or evil. That decision is now fixed for eternity. The story of St. Michael and Lucifer is biblical. See Revelations 12:7. We all have a personal angel. When our souls are created a guardian angel is assigned to watch over us until our death. Venerable Fulton Sheen didn't really have an angel writing on his blackboard.
