Dana Scallon: Musical Artist, Faithful Messenger Dana Scallon, commonly know simply as Dana, has long been a public icon – an international recording artist, a politician, and an advocate of Faith. Her musical CDs are loved by people of all ages, but her music is about more than a beautiful tune and singing voice. Dana’s Catholic music is a message of Faith. A Brief Biography of Dana Scallon Dana Rosemary Scallon was born Rosemary Brown on August 30, 1951 in a bomb-damaged Georgian house in London. She was born the youngest daughter of six children to a talented, musical couple. Dana’s mother played piano, and her father played the trumpet; the parents passed their love of music on to their children. Music became a fixture of Dana’s life from an early age; she came in first in a talent show at age six when she sang an Irish lullaby. Her talent continued to blossom and she recorded her debut single at the age of sixteen. Initially, Dana’s very successful career was in secular music. In the midst of this, Dana began to speak very publicly about her faith and together with her husband, Damien, began writing Christian songs. She’d always had a strong sense of religious duty and wanted to bring the message into her music. In 1987, she was invited to lead 86,000 young people in the singing of her song, Totus Tuus for Pope John Paul II; in the 1990s, Dana’s family relocated to Alabama and she hosted her own shows on EWTN. Dana also toured the United States, performing at a variety of Catholic and ecumenical events, including World Youth Day in 1993. Dana was also involved in politics for a time, endorsing Christian family values. She ran as a non-party candidate in the 1997 Irish presidential election, coming in third with a respectable 14% of the votes. Then from 1999 to 2004 she was a Member of the European Parliament. She has since continued to be a spokesperson for Christian values and pro-life issues, as well as using her music to spread a faithful message.
