Celtic

The crucifix is the most recognizable symbol in the Catholic Church. A crucifix depicts Christ hanging on a cross in remembrance of his death. The unique form of the Celtic Crucifix – a regular crucifix with a circle around the intersection of the two beams may have been created by either St. Patrick or St. Declan. While there isn’t a definitive explanation for the origin of the cross, one theory is that it is based on a cross originally made in the Holy Land that was introduced to Ireland in the 8th century at the monastery of Iona. Wear one of our Celtic Crucifix necklaces as a reminder of the Irish heritage in the Catholic Church.
