Wouldn’t you like to get more out of Mass? One of the easiest ways to do that is to have your own missal. A missal is a book that contains the readings and text for the Mass so that you can both prepare for Mass ahead of time and follow along while you participate in the Mass. Here are some suggestions for using your missal: • On Saturday, read the next day’s readings aloud with your family. Give some thought to what they mean before you hear them again during Mass.
• If there is a special feast coming up, read about the saint or event being celebrated. Most missals contain a “proper” of saints. Proper means things that are done for a specific day.
• Get to Mass early and take some time to prepare yourself for Mass by reading some of the prayers in your missal. Missals come in a variety of styles including Sunday Missals, daily, and even monthly subscriptions like the Magnificat Magazine. If you aren’t sure about which missal to choose, you should read our How to Choose a Catholic Missal guide. We also are the only store carrying EVERY third edition altar missal available in the United States.
