“…among four thousand taken at random, we will not find fourscore who will not boldly affirm that it is just too painful a thing to actively remember these four last things. And yet I dare lay wager that of these four thousand you will not find fourteen who have deeply thought on these things four times in all their days.” The Four Last Things by St. Thomas More
It has ever been the practice of the Catholic Church to recommend to her spiritual children the meditation on man’s four last things – Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell. Keeping these sobering aspects of human destiny ever before our eyes and in our hearts, we will be that much less likely to fall into mortal sin and be lost eternally. The category includes books on the Four Last Things as well as the place of cleansing: purgatory.
