 Our Description

For your children:
An old-fashioned “Retreat-in-a-Book” . . . to help them ponder the truths of the Faith and live lives of holiness in accordance with those truths

Based on the traditional St. Ignatius retreat (trusted by Catholics for centuries) and adapted for children, this clear, simple, thoughtful presentation of the Faith is invaluable for parents seeking to form their children in holiness.

My Path to Heaven covers such essentials of the Faith as God’s will, angels, Heaven and Hell, the Fall of man, the Holy Trinity, the Incarnation, the Nativity, the Passion, salvation, the sacraments, faith, hope, love, and contrition, and it teaches children the relevance of these truths in their lives and in the decisions they make.

This unique book is:

Practical: it focuses on proper devotion and right action, not feelings

Serious: it acknowledges and speaks to the deep seriousness that attentive parents know lies in the hearts of even the very youngest children

Substantial: it considers central points of the Faith and addresses the issues that face every Christian, even the youngest

Prayerful: by speaking reverently of holy things, it inspires children to develop in devotion to Jesus, Mary, and the saints

Scriptural: chapters include numerous Scripture references

Among the topics:

  • Three ways to help your child make good choices
  • The victory promised to those who try to be holy
  • Free will: a great gift (and a great responsibility)
  • God's overwhelming mercy and patience
  • Christ's plan to train children to follow Him
  • God's generosity: why He deserves all our love
  • Satan: how your child can avoid the Devil's traps
  • Heaven: why now is the time to begin seeking it

“A delight for a child.”

“With the help of the pictures, answering the questions is a fascinating game, with sound supernatural values.”

This item received 4 stars overall. The Perfect At-Home Children's Retreat

My Path to Heaven is a children's retreat in the style of St. Ignatius.
The books is approximately 9x12 inches and has full-page black-white pencil drawings.
The children are to do one segment per day; each lasting 20-40  minutes depending on reading ability and amount of discussion (we did light discussion then left a lot of open-ended questions to think about throughout the day - and returned to a closing discussion in the evening). Each segment contains an image the child is to study (just enough to pique interest), followed by 2 pages of information in large font and spaced nicely, ending with a list of review questions and an invitation to view the picture again.

The children are instructed at the beginning of the book to also think of that image during his evening prayer time.

This item received 5 stars overall. A spiritual retreat for your child

Over the past few weeks I've been having my 8 1/2 year old daughter read My Path To Heaven.  The book is an Ignatian retreat for children.  The back cover of the book suggests that this book is best suited for children between the ages of 9 to 12, but I see no reason why a child as young as seven would have any difficulty grasping and understanding this book provided he or she is a good reader.

While it is not an ARKive book from Sophia Institute Press, this book was originally published in 1936 under a different title.  I think knowing that can be useful information for parents who are looking for books with good sound catechesis.  Most Catholic children are getting a watered down version of their faith in religious education classes and a book like this is a real find in the sea of Catholic books available for children today.  As I read through the Full Review...
