Saint Alphonsus Liguori for Every Day - Compiled and Edited by Trent Beattie
Saint Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787), bishop and Doctor of the Church, founded two orders, the best known of which is the Redemptorists. He wrote 111 books and treatises, more editions of which have been printed than those of any other author, including Shakespeare.
Saint Alphonsus has influenced the Church to such an extent that Pope John Paul II said he “had, as few others did, the sensus ecclesiae [sense of the Church], a criterion that remained with him in his theological research and pastoral practice in such a way that he became, in a certain sense, the voice of the Church.”
This little collection of meditations is a great introduction to the writings of Saint Alphonsus for people who have not yet read them.
About the author: Trent Beattie lives in Seattle, Washington and is the author of a book about scrupulosity, and of a book about Vatican II and the Mass, both forthcoming.
