Philip (Philippus, Philippe, Filippo, Felipe) [died c. 80 AD], APOSTLE, is mentioned as a confidant of Jesus in St. John‚s Gospel. He is always fifth in rank of the apostles. When certain Greeks wanted to see Jesus, they applied to Philip. He also brought St. Bartholomew to the Lord. He preached in Asia Minor and was martyred in Phrygia. In art he is depicted with a beard, a cross and holding a basket of loaves. He is the patron of Uruguay. His feast is May 3.
