Paul (Paolo, Paulo, Pablo, Pau, Paulus, Pauly, Pavel, Paulin, Pasha) [c. 3-65?], Apostle and martyr. Once a persecutor of the Christian church, later its champion and missionary, he is styled Apostle to the Gentiles by reason of his extensive missionary work throughout Asia Minor and westward as far as Spain. He was martyred and buried at Rome. His letters to the churches he founded are included in the New Testament. He is the patron of public relations and of Greece and Malta. His feast is June 29.
