(Lawrence, Laurent, Laurenz, Lars) [c. 1600-1637], was born in the Philippines around 1600. He was a married man with four children and worked as parish sacristan. In 1636 he joined a secret Dominican mission to Japan. A terrible storm drove him and his companions to the shores of Okinawa, where they were at once arrested, put in prison for a year and in 1637, put to death with terrible tortures. He is known as the reluctant saint. His feast is September 28.
