Jean (Joan) de Arc [1412-1431], pious peasant girl of Lorraine, in response to divine inspiration, led the army of Charles VI to the liberation of France. Later unjustly tried and executed for witchcraft, she died invoking the name of Jesus. She is a patron of France, soldiers and suitable model for women called to heroic causes. Her feast day is May 30.
