1004-1066] became King of England at 40. He was tall, well built, with white hair and beard and he loved hunting and hawking. One of the most popular of sovereigns, he was a peace-loving man whose reign was one of peace, prosperity and good government in spite of grave challenges. He was religious, devout and generous to the poor and infirm. He was just, considerate, unselfish and gentle. His emblem is his gold ring, which was the object of a famous miracle. His feast is October 13.
