St. Charles Lwanga Ceramic Plaque

(Carlos, Carlo, Carl, Karl) [c. 1860-1886] and companions, protomartyrs of Uganda. Charles was one of more than thirty Catholics & Anglicans martyred by King Mwanga from 1885 to 1887. Charles was the leader of the king’s pages and tried to protect them from the rage and sexual appetites of the king. In a rage, the king condemned the Christian pages to death by fire, although some were dismembered. Charles is patron of youth & of Catholic Action. His feast is June 3.
