Pre Vatican 2 First Communion Day at St Bernadine

My First Communion Day was in May of 1951. In those days we could not eat or drink anything from midnight until after the reception of Holy Communion. My 2nd grade class was to meet in our classrooms 30 minutes before Mass. When I arrived in the school building, full of wonder and anticipation of the great thing that I was about to do,  all the water fonts had been covered with cloth so that we young 7 and 8 year olds did not make a mistake and take a drink of water. I still vividly remember the covered water fonts and on each of my five children's First Communion Day I told them that story.
