(Ansis, Evan, Giannes, Giovanni, Hans, Hannu, Ioannis, Ivan, Iwan, Ivashka, Jan, Janeczek, Jankielek, Janko, Janos, Jean, Jonas, Jovan, Johann, Johannes, Joannes, Juhani, Juan, Juanitocho, Vanechka, Vanya, Xuan, Yochanan, Zana) [1815-1888], ideal patron of teachers. A simple priest, he was father to neglected boys, and through the Salesians, the teaching order he founded, the hope and salvation of thousands of young men. He is also patron of editors, apprentices, laborers and of the young. His feast is January 31.
