At the very beginning of his famous spiritual classic The Imitation of Christ, Thomas a Kempis reminds the reader that in order to become a follower of Christ one must imitate his life, and, urging the reader to accomplish this, Thomas adds: "Let it then be our main concern to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ." Thomas firmly believed that whoever "meditates devoutely on the most holy life and Passion of Our Lord will find all that he needs to make his life worthwile. If Jesus Crucified would come into our hearts, how quickly and perfectly we would be instructed in the spiritual life."

Thus, in this wonderful meditation book, perfect for Lent or any time of the year, the great spiritual writer and monk presents profound, short reflections on many Gospel passages of the Passion and death of Christ. Each chapter offers a prayer, a meditation, and spiritual advice and closes with another short prayer.

Very much in the same style as his Imitation of Christ, this book will make great spiritual reading for anyone wanting to grow in holiness. It would also be a source of great comfort and strength for people facing suffering or death, or trying to overcome difficulties in their lives. Illustrated.

Thomas a Kempis, a German monk in the 1400s, was a member of the Canons Regular fo Windesheim at Mount St. Agnes for seventy years. He wrote various spiritual works, but is best known as the author of The Imitation of Christ, after the Bible, the second most widely read spiritual book in the world.
