 Our Description

* Customers please note - Due to the oversize nature and heavy weight of this teacher's binder, in addition to the much lower discounts offered to us on both texts and educational material, we must add a small shipping surcharge to cover our costs or we would not be able to carry this superb series. We assert that the Didache series offers the finest high school level Catholic religious education material available and we want to continue to encourage its use by individuals, parishes and schools. Even with our shipping surcharge, our cost to ship your books to you is still less that you would pay if you order them directly from the publisher.

 General Description:

This is a comprehensive introduction to the Catholic faith.

Includes chapters on the universal Call to holiness, the Church, Mary the Trinity, Prayer, Revelation, each of the Seven Sacraments, each of the Ten Commandments, and the Beatitudes.

Following the textbook, this teacher's manual is intended to help teach students the Catholic Faith. The teaching resources contained in the manual include:

  • chapter goals
  • a summary of the principles addressed in each section
  • references to the Catechism
  • lesson plans
  • vocabulary review
  • practical exercises
  • and more...

Each section of each chapter includes a concise commentary and suggested approaches to the material as well as stories from the Gospels and other sources to complement the themes addressed in the textbook.

The Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has found this catechetical text, copyright 2003, to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

"These two books of the series respond well to a request I made three years ago for high school texts that would set out clearly and adequately the teaching of the Catholic Church.

They offer an approach to that teaching substantial enough to win the respect and interest of students. Scripture, the liturgy, the writings of the Church Fathers, the teaching of Vatican II, of the Popes, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church make up their rich content.

Traditional words unique to the Catholic Church, those "belief" words that are an essential vocabulary for Catholic literacy and for insight into revealed truth, are used and explained.

I warmly recommend these two books to high school teachers and students, to those responsible for the RCIA and to all who serve in positions of lay ecclesial ministry."
- Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago

As a Catholic educator I welcome the "Didache" religion textbook series and recommend it wholeheartedly.

With its basis in Scripture and in the teachings found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, this series should be a great asset to those concerned with teaching Catholicism in its richness and entirety.

There is a definite need for textbooks that adequately present the Catholic Faith to young people. The "Didache" series responds to that need.
- Dr. Scott Hahn, Professor of Theology and Scripture, Franciscan University of Steubenville

This new high school text book series is being produced in response to the request from some of the bishops of the United States for a high school series that sufficiently presents the life and doctrine of the Church, and does so in the context of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

What is the focus of this series?

The focus of this series is to teach, in a manner that is both comprehensible and accessible to high school students, the basic tenets of the doctrinal, scriptural, moral and sacramental life of the Church. Accordingly, the books of this series rely heavily on sources such as Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the lives of the saints, the Fathers of the Church, and the teaching of Vatican II as witnessed by the pontificate of John Paul II.

Why should educators who are serious about their students' faith buy these books?

This series aims to teach the Catholic Faith in all its richness and enirety, without compromising the integrity of the Catholic teachings and traditions for the sake of a watered-down secular approach found in some texts. This series offers a substantive alternative to high school texts that present the Catholic Faith as merely one option among many other "equally valid" religions.

A significant number of Catholic teenagers in this country are leaving the practice of their faith upon graduation from high school, if not earlier. Many, taught in their most formative years not to cling to their faith as the one true faith, are left with a subjectively indifferent view of Catholicism. At a time in their lives when they are searching for meaning, for principles to hold to, they see no reason to practice their faith. Tragically, the Catholic Faith as they learned it is devoid of its mystery, its uniqueness, and ultimately, its appeal.

This series hopes to answer the young person's question, "Why should I be Catholic?" From these books they will learn to see the Sacraments as full of mystery and beauty, essential for a meninful relationship with God. They will learn to approach Scripture with wonder rather than indifference. They will discover the richness and adventure in the history of salvation and of the Church through a study of the Old and New Testaments and of the lives of the saints. And they will find that the moral teachins of the Church, far from being restrictive and frustrating, are the path to a life of true freedom and happiness.
