What is the Song of Songs and why is it found in the Bible?
From the introduction:
The Song of Songs is not an organically composed work but a collection of songs that have as their common theme the love between two lovers. The man, the lover, is called by the endearing names “my darling” and “my beloved.” The woman, the beloved, is referred to warmly as “my sister,” “my spouse,” “my fiancée.” Thus the songs are first of all a celebration of human love in its various aspects: desire, physical attraction, belonging, communion, complete giving. It is a love that also knows silence, solitude, fear, and separation, but in the end prevails over all obstacles because “love is strong as death” (Song 8,6).
Besides being a celebration of human love, the Song of Songs has been read as an allegory in which the love of the lover for the beloved is seen as a parable of the love of God for his people.
Explore the Song of Songs with this beautiful gift book. Song of Love: The Song of Songs is exquisitely presented with details from the illuminated Borso d’Este Bible and will be meaningful for couples and for all who seek words to express the love of God in their lives.
