La Parte I del Ritual de exequias Cristianas, "Ritos Funerales," ofrece aquellos ritos que se pueden usar en las exequias cristianas. Este Parte I se divide en tres grupos de ritos que corresponden en general a los tres principales momentos rituales de las exequias cristianas: “Vigilia y Ritos Relacionados,” “Liturgia Funeral,” y “Rito de Sepelio.” La sección titulada “Vigilia y Ritos Relacionados” incluye ritos que pueden celebrarse entre el momento del fallecimiento y la liturgia funeral o, si no hubiera esta liturgia, antes del rito de sepelio. La sección titulada “Liturgia Funeral” provee dos formas de la liturgia funeral, celebración central de la comunidad cristiana por los difuntos: “Misa Funeral” y “Liturgia Funeral fuera de la Misa.” La sección titulada “Rito de Sepelio” incluye dos formularios del rito de sepelio: “Rito de Sepelio” y “Rito de Sepelio con Ultima Despedida.”

The Order of Christian Funerals allows the minister, after consulting the family, to choose those rites and texts that are appropriate to the situation: to address the needs of the mourners, the circumstances of the death, and the customs of the local Christian community. The pastoral notes can help the minister and the family in the selection of the appropriate rite.

Part I: "Funeral Rites" is divided in three groups of rites that correspond in general to the three main moments of a Christian funeral: "Vigil Service and Related Rites," "Funeral Liturgy," and "Rite of Committal."

Part II, "Funeral Rites for Children," offers an adaptation of the principal rites of Part I: "Vigil Service for a Deceased Child," "Funeral Liturgy," and "Rite of Committal."
