General Description:
The Pieta by Michelangelo was started in 1498/1499 and completed in 1500 when he was 25 years old. It is his only sculpture that carries his genuine signature, found on the strap across the Virgin Mary's chest which he added after it was thought that other sculptors had done the piece.
