This Christ Pantocrator icon measures 3 in. x 4 in.
General Description:
This icon of Christ the Pantocrator is one of the earliest extant icons of Christ known. The Saviour has a serious and intent expression, with both His human and Divine nature looking out at us, as the King of All beholding His people.
Saved from the iconoclast controversies that destroyed so many early icons, and preserved by the dry climate in Sinai's desert at St. Catherine's Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, this icon was worked in an encaustic or wax-melting ancient technique of making icons. It is early Byzantine in origin.
