Military Rosaries

The intercession of our Blessed Mother is always an immensely valuable thing, but perhaps even more so in times of strife, war, and sadness. As our soldiers travel overseas to fight for and protect our country, and encounter misery and pain, prayer is vital for retaining faith. The value of the ancient prayer of the rosary has been promoted and upheld by beloved saints and other holy men and women for years upon years.

The rosary is a particularly useful prayer for those in military service. Once, praying the rosary served as a way for those who were illiterate, and so could not study the Bible, to meditate upon the mysteries and truths in Scripture. While many Catholics in the military take solace in reading from the Bible, there are also times when fulfilling certain duties make carrying or reading from the Bible difficult. And so in praying the Rosary, these faithful men and women can reflect upon truths and mysteries from the Gospel.

One of the most popular types of rosary among those in the service is the line of wearable military rosaries. In the military, delicate glass bead rosaries may have a chance to get damaged, or a member of the service may not have a good way to safely carry it with him or her.

The military wearable rosaries are rugged and durable; they consist of non-reflective pony beads strung on military issue parachute cord. They are designed to be worn around the neck and also have a break away clasp for safety. They are basic, no-frills rosaries that get the job done; they are tough enough to go anywhere a man or woman in the service needs to go and will serve as a useful prayer aid in any situation. The colors are selected to correspond to the military branch and are available for Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and the Marines. Also available in this line are wearable rosaries for firefighters and law enforcement, as well as the limited edition Pope Benedict XVI wearable rosary.

Another option, aside from the wearable rosary, is to take a rosary that can be carried in the pocket. Once again, a fragile rosary may be likely to be broken, and so a durable rosary should be chosen. One option is the rosary ring – different styles may be worn or kept in a pocket or any case or pouch for convenience. Another option is a single decade rosary that may be easier to carry along than a full size rosary.

As part of our selection of rosary making kits, there is a military rosary kit. The finished product that is made with this kit is not designed as a wearable rosary. However, it does utilize non-reflective pony beads in a camouflage color blend. This rosary kit is ideal for a child whose parent or other loved one is in the military.
