 General Description:

The highly regarded spiritual writer and theologian, Fr. Aidan Nichols, OP, presents an overview of the Old Testament, what it is, its relationship to the New Testament, and how it is crucial for being familiar with the Old Testament to really understand in a deeper way the richness and message of the New. In particular, he shows that it is crucial to grasp that connection in order to better understand and believe in the message and person of Christ.

Ignorance of the Old Testament makes it impossible to grasp the entire divine plan which stretches between the Two Testaments, says Nichols. We cannot read the great theologians, saints and scripture commentators of all ages without the Old Testament. Even understanding and appreciating the art of the Church is impossible if the Old Testament is a closed book for us.

Nichols had the help of biblical experts from various Christian denominations—notably Evangelicals and Anglicans—in writing this appealing work. He also draws on the Fathers and Doctors of the Church to help illuminate the beauty of the relationship between the Two Testaments.

Aidan Nichols, O.P., is a Dominican Priest and well-respected theologian who has taught at Oxford and Providence College. He is the author of numerous books including Looking at the Liturgy, Holy Eucharist, The Shape of Catholic Theology, and The Thought of Benedict XVI.
