5.0/5 An Excellent Prayer Book for Praying the Hours, 04/08/2005

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an excellent prayer book for introducing one to the Liturgy of the Hours while providing an excellent source for devotion to our Blessed Mother. The instruction guide in the front is clear and concise but not so complicated one cannot understand how to use this excellent prayer book. Following the format of the Liturgy of the Hours, it includes Morning and Evening prayer. It also provides a section with an abbreviated Office of Readings, Daytime Prayer and Night Prayer (Compline). One will also find at the back of the book some special prayers to Mary including the Thanksgiving for Mary's Fiat. It is well organized with a wealth of Psalms, scriptures and writings from various saints. Perhaps its most endearing feature is its devotion to the Blessed Mother assigning each day to a different role our Holy Mother has played in the life of the Church. So for those who wish to cultivate a devotion to the Blessed Virgin, this is an excellent source to use for that purpose. For those who own the previous edition of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this edition will certainly enhance their prayer lives and devotion to our Blessed Mother. So with its reduced and simplified format patterned after the Liturgy of the Hours, and with its wealth of scriptures and writings from some of the saints, I rate this prayer book a 5. I recommend it to any Catholic or individual who wishes to develop a daily or hourly prayer life.
