This reproduction is of a 12th century icon from St. Catherine's Monastery at Sinai. It is a representation of the Ladder of thirty heavenly virtues by which we all must rise towards Heaven, like rungs on a ladder. St. John of the Ladder describes these virtues in his 7th century book. The struggle is real and difficult, with demons trying to prevent our climb, but Christ Himself welcomes those who succeed at the top of the ladder.
The icon is mounted on wood and may be hung or placed on a shelf.
