 General Description:

This is a Greek icon from Holy Dionysiou Monastery on Mount Athos.  The Forty Holy Martyrs were first stoned, but the stones turned back and hit those who threw them, including the commander whose teeth were smashed.  The idea of the frozen lake came next.
