With the exception of Mel Gibson's The Passion, no film in recent history has tackled spiritual and religious themes so powerfully. Based on true events, this gripping tale—part horror, part courtroom drama—follows the story of the demonic possession and demise of college student Emily Rose, deftly portraying the battle between good and evil, belief and unbelief. Her exorcism had gone awry, for reasons not immediately revealed, and a legal battle ensues while the life of Emily's parish priest hangs in the balance. The worldviews and convictions of the characters (and viewers!) are shaken, as the film volleys between two versions of the truth, finishing in a dramatic and shocking conclusion. As Emily's exorcist Fr. Moore says, "Demons exist, whether you believe in them or not". (Viewer discretion is advised)
