 General Description:

The works of Ignacio Larranaga provide analysis and solutions, doctrines and orientations for the needs and problems of the whole person. They are a summary of the total mystery of a person and his needs-a summary that has helped millions and millions of people to experience the joy of interior liberation and the joy of living. Now, the message of Father Larranaga is becoming available to English-speaking readers.

For man's relationship with God, we have Sensing Your Hidden Presence which describes and practically analyzes man's spiritual life from his first steps to the heights of contemplation; Encounter, a simplified and practical manual of prayer; Psalms for Life (forthcoming), a practical manual for learning how to pray the Psalms.

For man's relationship with himself, From Suffering to Peace, by means of practical orientations and exercises, shows the way man can "save himself," freeing himself from anguish, obsessions, depressions, sadness, anxieties and fears. The Unavoidable Force of Aging (being written), explains how to face and resolve all the forces which make man feeble, such as uselessness, impotence, solitude, sickness, old age and death.

For man's relationship with others in the midst of any community, be it marriage, family, work or any other group, the book entitled Come with Me deals with respect, understanding, forgiveness, communication, acceptance, dialogue and what to do with difficult persons.

In addition to these, Ignacio Larranaga has written three other books; The Poor Man of Nazareth (forthcoming), The Silence of Mary and Brother Francis of Assisi. These books offer totally original and appealing perspectives on three outstanding figures of Christian tradition: Jesus, the Savior, the Virgin Mary and Saint Francis of Assisi.

Although the author is a Catholic writer, his message is valid for any Christian, any believer and, simply, for any man and woman, as already proved in many nations. As a matter of fact, many psychologists recommend Ignacio Larranaga's books to their patients.

Profile
Son of Pietro Bernadone, a rich cloth merchant. Though he had a good education and became part of his father's business, he also had a somewhat misspent youth. Street brawler and some-time soldier. Captured during a conflict between Assisi and Perugia, he spent over a year as a prisoner of war. During this time he had a conversion experience, including a reported message from Christ calling him to leave this worldly life. Upon release, Francis began taking his religion seriously.

He took the Gospels as the rule of his life, Jesus Christ as his literal example. He dressed in rough clothes, begged for his sustenance, and preached purity and peace. His family disapproved, and his father disinherited him; Francis formally renounced his wealth and inheritance. He visited hospitals, served the sick, preached in the streets, and took all men and women as siblings. He began to attract followers in 1209, and with papal blessing, founded the Franciscans based on a simple statement by Jesus: "Leave all and follow me." In 1212 Clare of Assisi became his spiritual student, which led to the founding of the Poor Clares. Visited and preached to the Saracens. Composed songs and hymns to God and nature. Lived with animals, worked with his hands, cared for lepers, cleaned churches, and sent food to thieves. In 1221 he resigned direction of the Franciscans.

While in meditation on Mount Alvernia in the Apennines in September 1224, Francis received the stigmata, which periodically bled during the remaining two years of his life. This miracle has a separate memorial on 17 September.

In the Middle Ages people who believed to be possessed by Beelzebub especially called upon the intercession of Saint Francis, the theory being that he was the demon's opposite number in heaven.
