The Blue Cross
Study Edition
Item Number: 1168
Father Brown is traveling to London to attend a meeting of priests and religious, and he is carrying with him a priceless silver cross, studded with blue sapphires. Flambeau, the world-famous thief, disguises himself as a priest and spends the day with Father Brown, trying to find a way to steal the cross from the sweet, unassuming priest. During the course of the day, Father Brown not only figures out that Flambeau is not a priest, he also manages to switch the cross into a different package, and leads Flambeau into the waiting arms of the police. In the end, Father Brown astonishes Flambeau and Valentin (Chief of Paris Police) because he appears so ordinary, yet he is able to figure out Flambeau is a thief and devise a plan on the spur of the moment to save the cross and have Flambeau arrested. It is amazing that such a simple little person (or is he?) could accomplish all this.
