Ariel Ramirez is an Argentinean pianist and composer, first gaining widespread fame upon recording and conducting his Misa Criolla in 1964. The Misa Criolla is a lyrical mass, based purely on folkloric musical themes. Ramirez composed the piece for soloists, chorus and orchestra, where the percussion could bring an authentic Latin-American touch. The mass is performed by Zamba Quipildor, a popular Argentinean singer, famous for his exceptional vocal gift. The power and range of emotion captured in Quipildor’s voice has turned this work into an eternal spiritual piece filled with reverence, fervor and emotion.
