Letters were often the only route to aid for the forlorn.  Here in this collection, translated for the first time, we find evidence for Pius XII's concern for all victims of Nazi terror.  Whoever reads these pages cannot fail to be affected by this pope's crusade of charity for the personal tragedies inflicted on both combatants and civilian.  Among her sources from the Vatican Secret Archives are letters, telegrams, and reports of the apostolic delegates who visited prisoner camps around the world.
