Wth greater documentation and detail than ever, Davies traces the steps by which the ancient Catholic Mass became the Lord's Supper in the Church of England - and shows how those changes were directly inspired by the Reformers' fundamental theological differences with the Church of Rome.
The original 1976 edition of Cranmer, and of Vols. II and III in Davies' Liturgical Revolution trilogy (which includes Pope John's Council and Pope Paul's New Mass, drew the highest praise from critics:
