St. Stephen Icon

 General Description:

This is a reproduction of modern Greek icon by N. Lionda of St. Stephen the first Deacon and the first Christian martyr (the Protomartyr).  Gamaliel of the Sanhedrin, a secret Christian, took his body and buried it on his own land.

This reproduction print is mounted on a wood plank, in the traditional style of the Christian East.

Feast Day: Roman Rite Calendar - 12/26 Patron Of: Austria, Bricklayers, Casket Makers, Deacons, Germany, Headaches, Horses, Masons, Stone Masons, Stone Workers Profile First Christian Martyr. Deacon. Preacher. All we know of him is related in the Acts of the Apostles. While preaching the Gospel in the streets, angry Jews who believed his message to be blasphemy dragged him outside the city, and stoned him to death.
