I had the privilege of hearing an advance copy of Sacred Hymns and I was blown away when I heard it.  The first album by L'Angelus was a mixture of Cajun-country-bluegrass and is a pleasure to listen to.  What they have been able to do with this latest album is to fuse their unique sound with an unmistakably Catholic repertoire.  But don't think these are hymns with a twang.  

I recognized many of the tracks on the cover and was surprised when I started listening that some of them had different melodies than I was familiar with.  The a capella Salve Regina is particularly nice because the melody is the chant form that most people are familiar with, but the astounding harmony transforms this into version you will listen to time and again.  These new arrangements and the incredible musical talent these young adults possess make every song on the album a gem.  They treat the listener with English, Latin, French and Spanish h Full Review...

     L'Angelus is an amazing band with many talents.  This newest and third CD contains sacred hymns I would want to hear at church and just about everywhere else.  Their talented voices and amazing instrumental skills make listening enjoyable even when I'm not looking for a particular track.  Plus It  helps keep me from going crazy on days with lots of traffic.  Unfortunately this CD still does not include their great song "Rice and Gravy."  Besides that last detail "Sacred Hymns" is a great CD. 

      It's like any regular CD.  A round, perfect shape that magically plays sound once placed inside a slot.  The CD contains 12 beautiful songs, not one that is unlikeable.  The songs are all Catholic songs, and very heart warming.  They won't crush your soul like a lot of the music yo Full Review...

Recorded by a group of young-adult siblings, the Sacred Hymns Collection by L'Angelus contains twelve beautiful and reverent treatments of familiar Catholic hymns.  The instruments used are unique:  piano, guitar, strings, mandolin, steel guitar and even accordion are featured on this CD; organ is only used in three of the tracks.  The artists are clearly very gifted, and they perform the hymns flawlessly, with excellent harmony and beautiful accompaniment.   The music is extremely peaceful and uplifting.

This item received 5 stars overall. A Beautiful Collection of Traditional Catholic Music

Sacred Hymns is a beautiful collection of traditional music from our Church.  The Rees family has extraordinary talent.  A few of the hymns are classic-straight-out-of-the-hymnal types like "This Day God Gives Me" or "Sing of Mary".  My absolute favorites, though, are the latin hymns, such as "Tantum Ergo" and "Salve Regina".  There were even a few that I didn't know and are now favorites, like "J'irai La Voir Un Jour".  I walked around singing the refrain for three days.

The accompaniment is wonderful as well.  This is not organ grinding, although some of the songs include it beautifully.  Most songs are sung alongside a violin, guitar, cello, ect. which add to their beauty. 

Sacred Hymns really shows the wonder of our Catholic faith through its traditional music.  The music obviously transcends cultures, much as our Faith does.  Besides the already named Fr Full Review...
