 Our Description

Fun-loving Patrick had it easy at his parent's seaside villa.  At 16, he thought he had it made for life.  That is, until the day raiders kidnapped him to nearby Ireland.  Now a slave and shepherd, Patrick faced a bleak and uncertain future.  To survive, he'd have to conquer cold, hunger, wild beasts, and even worse enemies.

What's more, Patrick would have to conquer himself.  So he turned to God.  With new strength and inner freedom, he began an incredible saga of faith against which no enemy would ever prevail.

Blending historical facts with beloved traditions, PATRICK, BRAVE SHEPHERD OF THE EMERALD ISLE brings to life a long-lost world of Druids, warriors, and kings.  One that brave Patrick, following the example of the Good Shepherd, illuminated forever.

This item received 5 stars overall. A GREAT Family Night Movie!

Patrick: Brave Shepherd of the Emerald Isle is an awesome movie that portrays the amazing life of Saint Patrick. The fascinating story of Celtic pirates, flourishing friendships and unfaltering faith is something that will entertain the entire family. The depiction of Saint Patrick's life is easy for children to understand and they are taught about the Holy Trinity and the importance of prayer in everyday life. Another important lesson learned is about having a complete faith in God and his plan, especially while in circumstances that seem impossible to overcome or endure. Although Patrick is kidnapped away from his home and brought to the pagan filled land of Ireland, he feels God all around him and continues to tell everyone he meets about God. In his struggles he relies on his faith and prevails. This is a beautiful story of a child who becomes a man and from a man transforms Full Review...

Profile

Kidnapped from the British mainland around age 16, and shipped to Ireland as a slave. Sent to the mountains as a shepherd, he spent his time in the field in prayer. After six years of this life, he had a dream in which he was commanded to return to Britain; seeing it as a sign, he escaped. He studied in several monasteries in Europe. Ordained a priest and then a bishop. Sent by Pope Celestine to evangelize England, then Ireland, during which his chariot driver was Saint Odran, and Saint Jarlath was one of his spiritual students. In 33 years he effectively converted the Ireland. In the Middle Ages Ireland became known as the Land of Saints, and during the Dark Ages its monasteries were the great repositories of learning in Europe, all a consequence of Patrick’s ministry.
