 General Description:

By Lycourgos Angelopoulos and the Byzantine Choir of Greece and Divna and the Melodi Choir

A magnificent tribute paid to the splendors of Byzantine music, this amazing repertoire lies at the heart of the oldest Christian traditions. Byzantium’ s musical history has left a deep impression on our history through an immense musical heritage kept alive with the help of an undisturbed musical tradition in Greece and in the old Churches of Orient. Lycourgos Angelopoulos is head of the Byzantine Chorus of Greece and is considered to be an expert in Byzantine music. Divna Ljubojevic, a beautiful and ardent Serbian singer has earned a reputation as an exceptional interpreter of the orthodox repertoire. Her clear, crystal-like voice is instantaneously and evocatively moving.

In order to present the repertoire’s most beautiful liturgies and its variety of styles, this program has been conceived as a subtle dialogue between two significant artists representative of this renowned repertoire: a legend and an up-and-comer.

The legend is Lycourgos Angelopoulos. Head of the Byzantine Chorus of Greece, he is considered to be an expert in Byzantine music, as he aims to preserve its authentic tradition through both an aesthetic and historically accurate musical process.

The up-and-comer is Divna Ljubojevic. With two albums, this beautiful and ardent Serbian singer has earned a reputation as an exceptional interpreter of the orthodox repertoire. Her clear, crystal-like voice is instantaneously and evocatively moving.
