 Our Description

This book provides music for the propers of the Mass, which are integral to the structure of the liturgy and which have been sung since the earliest centuries.  The entrance, offertory, and communion chants in this book are for use in the ordinary form of the Roman Rite.  The translations of the antiphons found in the collection are from the Gregorian Missal as published by Solesmes, and the Psalms verses are taken from the Revised Grail Psalter.  You can find these texts in their Gregorian musical setting in the Graduale Romanum.

Includes propers for all Sunday Masses throughout the liturgical season, Feast Days, funeral and nuptial Masses.

This item received 4 stars overall. A must-have for those serious about liturgy!

I worked in parish liturgy for years, even attending a university course on the subject, and until I recently had no idea what the Propers were.  Considering that my specific interest was liturgical music, this seems almost criminal.
Adam Bartlett's work Simple English Propers seeks to fill a gap in liturgical resources, and to encourage the knowledge and practice of something which has almost universally fallen from use, despite liturgical documents giving official 'pride of place' to chant.
This book is designed for use within the Ordinary Form of the Mass.  It presents the Propers (Entrance, Offertory and Communion) as per the Graduale Romanum, for all S Full Review...

This item received 5 stars overall. Easy to use, simple but beautiful melodies, clear-set, and a great tool to restore Sacred music.

I wasn't hesitant to request this item for a review, as I had read some very great things regarding the Simple English Propers, such as their faithfulness to true plainchant and clear layouts. Apparently, the propers are an effort the bring true sacred music back to the vernacular Mass. Well, if every Parish had this book, we wouldn't have a problem with bad hymns. The Simple English Propers are published by the same people who publish the "Vatican II Hymnal", which I haven't looked at but also have heard good things about it. When I opened the box which held the book, I was surprised to see that the cover was tastefully designed with a picture of an old breviary: and it was HARDCOVER too! The book opens nicely, and it stays open. The paper is higher-quality novel paper, and not too heavy.
The pages are designed very nicely. The text is very clear, easy to re Full Review...

This item received 5 stars overall. A must have Liturgy beautifying book of simple chants

Every Chior director should have and use a copy of Simple English Propers For the Ordinary Form of Mass Sundays and Feasts. Adam Bartlett, the composer and editor, has created chants that lift the Ordinary Form of the Mass to the beauty it deserves and just as the title promises, they are simple. Published by Church Music Association of America, copyright 2010, ISBN #978-1-60743-724-6 this is a user friendly introduction to using chant.

My background includes belonging to up to five choirs at the same time and many years of singing in church and for pure joy. Singing is a pleasure for me and from the moment I pulled this volume from the packaging I found myself enchanted.  The book does not assume experience with chanting and so takes the time to explain how to understand the notation. I was exploring my first chant within minutes of opening the book.

This item received 4 stars overall. Plainchant for the Church Year

Welcome back to Stuart's Study. Today's review of Simple English Propers composed and edited by Adam Bartlett is geared toward all the music lovers out there, but it might also strike the fancy of those not so musically inclined, like myself. Have you ever been sitting in Mass when you are told to turn your hymnal to a hymn without having any idea why this title was chosen for a particular Feast Day? Or are you sick of hearing the same hymns sung every single week of Ordinary Time? Do you just like the sound of Gregorian Chant? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this book is for you.
