The Screwtape LettersPurchase Information
Your Price: $13.99 Format: Paperback General Description: C. S. Lewis One of C.S. Lewis's most imaginative creations, this world-famous book is a humorous correspondence between the devil Screwtape and his apprentice Wormwood, whose job is to produce a human's soul for eternity in hell. Filled with astute insights into temptation, repentance, and grace, this wonderful tale intelligently explores what it means to live a good, honest life and is a favorite of Lewis fans.
Screwtape Letters is probably the most amazing book I have ever read, and the book that got me hooked on reading. Before I read it I was the regular school kid that doesn't like to read. I was eventually forced to pick up this book, as it counted for half a quarters grade in English during 11th grade. Well, I did pick it up and upon reading the first letter I couldn't put it down. I ended up finishing half the quarter for English that year in two days, which is only possible for a homeschooler. Unfortunately I forgot the rest of my classes during that time period. The books format was unheard of, the reading wasn't above me, and something about the taste kept me reading. I realized the author, Clive Staples Lewis, was the same as the one of a book I had helped my littlest brother read early on in his education called "The Magicians Nephew," which also kept me hooke Full Review...
Over the past couple years I have heard a lot about C. S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. Since I tired of hearing how great it was, I decided I need to read it for myself. Having attempted to read Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as a youth and finding it painfully boring, I came into this book with a lot of reservations given my previous opinion of his work. Clearly what others find to be an engaging read is not always the case for me. So I took a chance and dove into a copy of The Screwtape letters and found myself pleasantly surprised. Surprised enough that I'm looking forward to reading more of C.S Lewis' work. The book is written in an entirely engaging style. The letters are the Full Review...
I've read quite a few C.S. Lewis books over the course of my life. I've read everything from the Chronicles of Narnia to Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain. However, I never picked up The Screwtape Letters. Over the years I heard quite a few people talking about this book and how good it is, but I never took the time to pick it up and read it. I'm glad I finally decided to read it. This is a truly amazing book. It really makes a person think. After picking up a copy tor read, I could not put it down. It grabbed my attention and drew me in to the story. Full Review...
I loved this creative approach to addressing how God calls us and how the Satan attempts to deter us from answering His call. This classic work of fabricated written correspondence between Screwtape, an experienced devil, and his young apprentice Wormwood proves to be a very telling look into the psychology of temptation, deceit, and evil. Screwtape advises Wormwood to do the exact opposite of what a Christian would do. He discourages all the fundamental practices and beliefs which strengthen a Christian’s relationship with God and with other believers. C. S. Lewis’ use of satire is brilliant and at times very funny. What better way to advise Christians on the faith than to create a correspondence between two devilish sorts discussing ways to break down a believers trust in Full Review...
The Screwtape Letters allows the reader to enter into the fascinating mind of C.S Lewis and his interpretation of Heaven and Hell. Written as letters between and uncle and his nephew, we learn about the deception of the evil one and his attempts to keep us from our Father in Heaven. I found this book engaging and captivating. Different statements throughout the book literally made me stop and ponder its meaning in my life. Not many books can challenge the reader to take a step back and see where we have lost our way in our quest to Heaven.
C.S. Lewis challenges the reader to dig deeper into ones soul and evaluate Full Review...
