 Our Description

The Gospels tell us very little about St Joseph.  But they are particularly rich in hidden meaning.  The few details they give become extremely enlightening when we reflect on them.  The eminent biblical scholar Père Gasnier wrote this book in an attempt at the historical reconstruction of Joseph’s life and a study of his spirituality.

It follows closely the Gospel narrative and takes into account the teachings of the Church.  Drawing much from the deductions and meditations of the early Fathers and Doctors of the Church, the author also had recourse to extra-biblical historical and contemporary documents, permitting him to place the life of Joseph in its proper geographical and historical time frame.

At once devotional and learned, written in clear, eloquent and lively style, this work doubtless fosters more devotion to "the greatest of the saints after Mary", and to one the Church has exalted to the degree that he tried, in life, to efface.
