This is the second book in Pope Benedict XVI's projected three-volume work on Our Lord Jesus Christ.

thinks that the best of historical scholarship, while it can’t “prove” Jesus is the Son of God, certainly doesn’t disprove
it. Indeed, Benedict maintains that the evidence, fairly considered, brings us face-to-face with the challenge of Jesus—a
real man who taught and acted in ways that were tantamount to claims of divine authority, claims not easily dismissed as
lunacy or deception.

I have sincerely enjoyed Jesus of Nazareth Vol. II from Pope Benedict XVI.
 
In regards to content, there is much to glean from the material inside this book; Pope Benedict immediately began transforming my understanding of Liturgy by opening my heart to a greater depth of perspective about the events of Holy Week.
 
Though his writing style is academic in nature, I did not find it overly verbiose or excessively challenging to the point of being unable to enjoy it. On the contrary, Pope Benedict's writing style is both elegant and accessible. It is also very conversational. I felt in the presence of an excellent teacher who sincerely wants me to understand.

Jesus of Nazareth II was written by the Pope, so a certain, very high, level of quality can be taken as a given. I'm going to review it, therefore, in comparison to the writing of Benedict's predecessor, John Paul II.

The first comparison is favourable. There is no learning curve involved in getting to the point where you can understand Benedict's prose. It's not dense, or meandering, the referrents are consistently clear, and any reasonably literate layman should be able to approach this text and glean the Full Review...
