 General Description:

A relevant and inspirational book for teens.

From playing video games to sleeping-in, teens can think of countless things they would rather do than go to Mass on Sunday morning. That is, unless they knew what they were missing. "Do I Have to Go?" explains the meaning and the mystery of Mass in such a way that teens will be asking, "Why wouldn't I go?"

With wit, clarity, and common sense, Matthew Pinto and Chris Stefanick answer the tough questions teens have about the Mass-from the rituals contained in the liturgy, to the doctrines of the Eucharist and the priesthood. When teens understand that the Mass is literally the meeting place between heaven and earth, they will have a newfound sense of awe and a deeper understanding of their role as a Catholic in a post-modern world.

In “Do I Have to Go?” you will learn:

  • Why the Mass is an essential part of the Christian life
  • The mystery of the Eucharist as the Real Presence of Jesus’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity
  • How the redemptive work of Jesus Christ is communicated to and through the Church and the sacraments
  • The meaning of all the gestures and symbols of the the Mass
  • How the Mass has developed from its roots in the Old Testament, through its institution by Christ
  • The importance of the liturgical seasons for the spiritual life
  • And much, much more…

About the authors: Matthew Pinto is the founder and president of Ascension Press. Chris Stefanick is currently the Director of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministry for the Archdiocese of Denver.

This item received 5 stars overall. Yes, and Here's Why You'll Want to Go!

I consider any book a must-read that makes someone like me who would already answer the question in the book’s title with a resounding, emphatic Yes! even more interested in participating in the Mass.  As a cradle Catholic who has never wanted to miss Mass, I read this book not expecting to learn anything new.  Actually I was pitching my own book idea to one of the authors, Matthew Pinto, who also happens to be a head of Ascension Press, so I purchased a copy of it to become more familiar with what he writes and publishes.

I was pleasantly surprised when this relatively short, easy-to-read book included information about the Mass and Church history which I hadn’t come across elsewhere.  I thought a book with a title including a question you’d expect to hear as a whine coming out of a teen’s mouth, a cover with an adolescent still in bed (presumably on a Sunday morning), and a quest Full Review...

This item received 5 stars overall. This will change the way you view Mass- A must-have resource for teens and adults alike!

When I first saw this book in my religious ed class, I didn't have very high expectations. I was so surprised! After flipping through it, I purchased it a few weeks later at my local Catholic bookstore, and I couldn't put it down! I read the whole book in a quick plane flight, and after stepping off that plane, I was ready to mapquest the nearest church... it was time for Mass! Matthew Pinto and Chris Stefanick do a brilliant job explaining everything from our not-so-monotonous traditions, the true Presence, and prayer, to liturgical seasons and what worship truly is. Do I Have to Go? has a permanent place on my bookshelf, and I reference it frequently. Concise, easy to read, and geared towards teens, this is a perfect resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the mass.

As a teen, I myself have wondered about many of the questions that are covered in this book. I found the answers to be clear and helpful. The book is 100% orthodox Full Review...
