 Our Description

This second volume tells the story of the great heresies that seemed to carry all before them, yet always failed to gain their final goal of capturing the Papacy; of St. Patrick's mission to Ireland; of how the Popes became judges of kings and the First Crusade swept on to victory against all odds; of how the Church bridged the abyss of the Dark Ages and laid the foundations of a new Christian order. All Christian countries are covered, with the history of the Popes as the connecting thread.

This series is the only in-print, comprehensive narration of Western history written from an orthodox Catholic perspective. How would a historical narrative read if the author began with the first principles that truth exists and the Incarnation happened? This series is essential reading for those who consider the West worth defending.

Warren H. Carroll holds a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University. Recognized as a leading Catholic historian, Carroll was the founder and first president of Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, where he was also the first chairman of the history department. Among his books are five volumes of a projected six-volume general history of the Christian West; a comprehensive history of international communism; a biography of Queen Isabel of Spain; and shorter historical works about the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of Fatima.
