Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman was beatified during the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI's apostolic visit to the United Kingdom on September 19, 2010. Cardinal Newman, a convert to Roman Catholicism from the Anglican Church, was a leader of the Oxford Movement and possessed a formidable intellect which he used in service to Christ's Church. After being received into the Catholic Church, he became a priest in the Congregation of the Oratory. He went to his eternal reward on August 11, 1890.
