Church Fathers

The Fathers of the Church generally refers to the prolific men in the early Church who spread and explained the Faith.  They can be divided into five periods: 

• The Apostolic Fathers of the second century.
  The writers of the third century from Alexandria, Asia Minor, Palestine, Rome and Africa.
• The fourth century Fathers from Jerusalem, Caesarea, Italy, Africa, and Spain.  This group includes St. Cyril of Jerusalem and St. Jerome.
• The papal letters of St. Leo in the fifth century
• The sixth and seventh century contain lesser known names and marks the end of the periods of the Church Fathers.

This book category includes the first three periods of writers who are more popularly known as the Church Fathers.  You'll find the works of the Desert Fathers and early greats like St. Augustine, St. John Chrysostom , and Origen.
