Made For More

Made For More” by Curtis Martin
Many of today’s youth remain preoccupied with the glory and glamour of being rich and famous. Yet as we see in the tabloids and on the television, so many of those enchanting stars that seemingly “have it all” are miserable, turning to drugs, alcohol, sex, and other excess without finding happiness. Too often, we hear stories of teens following the same path; they don’t have the fame but are trying to attain the glamour at dangerous costs.
The truth is that we are, as Curtis Martin, renowned Catholic leader, describes in his new book, Made for More. We are made for so much more than the fleeting attractions of this world. Made for more than the partying, casual sex, and money that so much of modern popular culture glorifies. We are made for greatness – not a greatness that is measured by our popularity, but an immeasurable greatness that can only be attained by forming a relationship with Christ and pursuing a life of Faith.
The idea behind Made for More is that we are made not for the short-term glories of this world, but eternal happiness with God. It’s not a new idea, but a concept that the saints and leaders of the church have preached since the earliest days of the Church, when St. Paul the Apostle urged the Romans, “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2).
This book is directed towards young Catholics – teens and older – who so often can end up drifting through life, without a firm sense of direction or understanding about what they are moving towards. In contrast to a society where so many decisions are based solely on making oneself happy, right now, this book seeks to guide these young adults toward a path of understanding their true purpose and finding true, lasting peace in God.
Though Made for More is aimed at teens and young adults, it would also be a good resource for parents of younger teens, as they help ready their children to enter this stage. This newly published book is available now. Christmas will be coming sooner that you realize and this intriguing and informational book would make a wonderful, insightful gift for the young Catholic in your family or circle of friends.
About the author:
Curtis Martin is well-known as the founder and president of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). The mission statement of FOCUS is “To know Christ Jesus, and fulfill His Great Commission, by first living and then communicating the fullness of life within the Family of God, the Church.” The missionary group doesn’t travel to remote third-world communities, which may be what we typically associate with the word mission. Rather, they travel to universities all across the nation, to spread the truth of Christ and the Catholic Church and encourage young adults to deepen their faith lives. He is also the Co-author of Boys to Men and Family Matters: A Bible Study on Marriage and Family. Click here to check out our other Curtis Martin resources.
