What is Catholic Schools Week?

The final Sunday of every January marks the start of Catholic Schools Week in the United States. It is an ideal time to learn more about the history of Catholic education and what constitutes theologically sound Catholic education still today.

About Catholic Education

St. Thomas Aquinas – St. Thomas Aquinas, author of the Summa Theologica and widely considered one of the most brilliant theologians the Church has known, had a large impact on modern education. He is also considered one of the finest teachers the Church has known; his skill and clarity are, of course, evident in the clear, direct, logical style found in the Summa, his crowning achievement. Whether you are a teacher, parent, or student, you can gain invaluable information on teaching and learning from the great teacher Aquinas, in reading and studying The Philosophy of Teaching of Thomas Aquinas.

The Vatican’s Teachings – You can also read about the Holy See’s Teaching on Catholic Schools. This title, by Archbishop J. Michael Miller, covers such important issues as the current situation of America's Catholic schools, shared responsibilities, and the five essential marks of Catholic schools.

College – If you or a family member is preparing for college, the Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College will be of immeasurable help. This guide features detailed profiles and essential school data to help the college-bound student to select a Catholic college that is a truly orthodox environment.
