We recently started selling Fr. Euteneuer’s new book Exorcism and the Church Militant after receiving a couple customer requests for the book this past springtime. Initially the book was difficult to source, but we found it and have been selling it very well.
A representative of the publisher told me how she was at a trade show recently, featuring this book and another new Catholic title that had just come out. Not a single Catholic store owner would commit to buying Exorcism and the Church Militant. Without even looking at the book, or opening up a copy, the store owners would say to her “Oh, we don’t carry that kind of book” or “Father doesn’t want us selling any books about evil and Satan.”
We think this is a classic example of “judging a book by its cover.” We also think it is very dangerous for Catholics, indeed, if they are not aware of the reality of Evil in the world. The Deceiver is constantly at work and Catholic classics of past ages, such as Spiritual Combat, have made that quite clear. We think the mindset of these aforementioned Catholic store owners is extremely troubling and it should be of concern to all of us.
Perhaps people are concerned about the orthodoxy of the book? If so, they haven’t heard of Fr. Euteneur and his work. He is the president of Human Life International and is currently speaking at engagements around the country with Fr. John Corapi. Both men appear regularly on EWTN and are heard frequently on Catholic radio. Certainly these men are two of the best priests in the country, solidly orthodox and working hard every day in the vineyards of the Lord, leading souls to the Truth that is Jesus Christ. No one could ever accuse them of anything else.
A couple years ago, senior Vatican exorcist Fr. Gabriele Amorth gave a revealing interview about the state of exorcism in the Church and Evil in the world. He was asked the question “You are locked in daily battle with the Devil . What do you see as Satan’s greatest success?”
This the answer Fr. Gabriele gave:
“The fact that he has managed to convince people that he does not exist. He has almost managed it, even within the Church. We have a clergy and an Episcopate who no longer believe in the Devil , in exorcism, in the exceptional evil the Devil can instill, or even in the power that Jesus bestowed to cast out demons. For three centuries the Latin Church – in contrast to the Orthodox Church and the various Protestant professions – has almost totally abandoned the ministry of exorcism. So because they no longer perform exorcisms, or study them, and never having seen them, the clergy no longer believe in them. And they no longer believe in the Devil . We have entire Episcopates trying to counter exorcism. We have countries completely devoid of exorcists, such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. This is a shameful shortfall.”
We are proud to be offering Exorcism and the Church Militant to our customers. Every Catholic should read this book and read it as soon as possible.
May God bless you and may He deliver you from all Evil.
He lives with his lovely wife and eleven kids in northern Colorado.
