This is Andrew. He’s been a Cub Scout for three years and is now a Webelos Scout. Right now he’s working at raising money for his scouting activities for the year. Like Girl Scouts, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts have to raise money for their activities. I think it’s great that they do this because it helps them gain poise in public and teaches them that the things they want to do are worth working for.
Our Pack sells Trails End Popcorn to raise money. This is typically our only fundraiser for the year. 70% of all funds collected go back to the local scouting organization. Some of it goes to the local council, some to the pack and the rest to the individual scout.
Andrew is trying to make it to $2500 this year. So far he has spent six hours at local grocery stores and walked several miles through our neighborhoods. We live in the country so each driveway is typically very long and each house is on five acres. That’s a lot of walking.
He’s almost reached $1000 and has a couple more weeks to reach his goal. Trails End has added an on-line component to sales so he can now earn some of his money through the Internet. Can you help out a scout? (And get some good popcorn in return?
If you don’t like popcorn, you can donate to have popcorn sent to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan!
Just use this link to make a purchase. Thanks for supporting Scouting!
