Our whole staff would like to wish you a blessed Thanksgiving! Even though this holiday isn’t a Catholic holy day, its timing right before the beginning of Advent is a wonderful coincidence. What greater thing can we be thankful for at this time of year than the coming of Christ?
As we are also constantly told today that America was founded as a secular nation and that religion needs to be kept as far away from government as possible it is a good time to read the original Thanksgiving Proclamation given by George Washington (spelling from the original):
WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houfes of Congress have, by their joint committee, requefted me “to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to eftablifh a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
